Y'ALL WE GOT A WOOL SELVEDGE BALE!!!!

It weaves up so cool and really fast!!

So just what is selvedge, you might ask? Selvedge is described as the 'self-finished' edge of a piece of fabric, such that it will not unravel or fray. Just where does selvedge in general, and ours in specific, come from? Generally, selvedge like this is leftover pieces cut from things like table clothes, curtains, and other fabrics from the garment industry. Pretty great to be able to use the cast-offs from these industries (thus helping to reduce global fiber waste), and make something cool and useful! Our selvedge bale in specific was sourced from a small weaving business in Michigan.

This particular bit of black has a wool warp (the black part) and an acrylic weft (the white bits).

The length of the fibers does vary along the length of each strip, so keep that in mind for your project. Each ball is wound with two strands of the selvedge held together. I found that weaving with one strand did not look significantly different than weaving with two together, and two made the weaving go faster. Obviously weaving singles would get you more yardage. You do you, boo!

We are far from done unraveling the bale, so if you are interested in more of this color/fiber, please let me know, and I can let you know when we have more available.

We have determined that we like 3# of selvedge for a 2'x3' rug; this results in a rug that has a good squish factor, but does not feel overly stiff. Rug kits are also in the works as well, so stay tuned.

Again, this listing is has a wool warp and an acrylic weft.

Good to the last drop

We strive to use every piece of every board we get into our shop. This means not only do we sometimes have looms of non-standard sizing, but we also use the cut off pieces to create our tapestry looms, niddy noddys, and more.
