Y'ALL WE GOT A WOOL SELVEDGE BALE!!!!

It weaves up so cool and really fast!!

So just what is selvedge, you might ask? Selvedge is described as the 'self-finished' edge of a piece of fabric, such that it will not unravel or fray. Just where does selvedge in general, and ours in specific, come from? Generally, selvedge like this is leftover pieces cut from things like table clothes, curtains, and other fabrics from the garment industry. Pretty great to be able to use the cast-offs from these industries (thus helping to reduce global fiber waste), and make something cool and useful! Our selvedge bale in specific was sourced from a small weaving business in Michigan.

The length of the fibers does vary along the length of each strip, so keep that in mind for your project. Each ball is wound with two strands of the selvedge held together. I found that weaving with one strand did not look significantly different than weaving with two together, and two made the weaving go faster. Obviously weaving singles would get you more yardage. You do you, boo!

We have paired up some of the selvedge to make some awesome rug kits combos! Each kit contains 3# of selvedge, which we have found is perfect for a 2' x 3' rug.

All selvedge contains an acrylic weft, while the warp may be either wool or acrylic. This kit contains wool selvedge for both colors.

If you'd like to make a single larger rug, you can either purchase more than one kit, or contact us about having us make up a custom kit for you!

The rugs pictured are samples that have been woven up as 2-tone contrasting color examples, and are one example of how you can combine your colors. We have also included a few shots of the two colors woven up together.
